Home - Events - Signs - Links - About - Contact Meeting Notes - April 26, 2003Notes from the April 26 meeting of North Seattle Neighbors for Peace and Justice Present: Eric Maia, Judy Cree, Marty Zupan, Kay Groves, Dave Jensen, Abe Osheroff and Gunnel Clark Announcements:UW Day of Reflection went well - over 40 events which reached an estimated 2,000 people. Abe Osheroff led two events. The SNOW Coalition is planning another large all-group meeting like the Dec. 8 meeting at Garfield. The date is set for May 31, and planning meetings are being held. A screening of the video by Doug Rokke on depleted uranium will take place on Friday May 2 at Abe and Gunnel's house. For more details, contact Gunnel at gunnel1@w-link.net We have some "WAGE PEACE" yard signs - if you're interested, contact Gunnel. Don't forget the Potluck for Peace May 3 at the Broadview Community United Church of Christ. Details are on the Web site. Meetings:We discussed whether we want to continue meeting every week, and decided that there were advantages to meeting on a
weekly basis (it keeps us together, focused, and accomplishing things). Our next meeting, on May 10, will be devoted to a focused discussion on war in the Middle East and possibilities for peace. We will start with a brief report from Abe Osheroff on the recent history of the region and the issues causing conflict. We will then each share our views and try to find actions we can take in our community to help move toward peaceful solutions. E-mail discussion list:Since our main list has become a moderated list which is mainly for "official group business" (announcements of events, meeting notes, etc.), there is a need for another channel so we can continue more informal discussions of peace issues. We decided create a new e-mail listserv for our group (probably called northseattle-peacetalk), which would be a private working group (controlled membership but unmoderated discussion). List members would need to adhere to the SNOW points of agreement, and the list would be for discussion, not just reposting of news articles. Draft design for new yard sign:Last week, we discussed an idea for a new yard sign that would say "Neighbors for Peace and Justice." Draft designs are posted on the Web site - please take a look at them and send comments or suggestions to Eric at maias@speakeasy.net Web site:There have been a lot of changes on the Web site lately - if you haven't been there recently, you chould check it out.
The next effort will be to add more links, including good news links. There was a request to include a variety of news links,
not just progressive, left-leaning sources. A more balanced selection will allow us to see what other people are reading and
thinking, so we know how to respond. | |||
