Notes from meeting 9/6/03:

Attending: Gunnel, Abe, Eric, Janet, Judy, Tom, Key, Charles, and a visitor (Michael, I think?)

Final plans for Sept 9 USA PATRIOT Act event:

Gunnel checked out the facility. We will be in the Sanctuary. We will have live music during set-up and as people arrive.

We will have Civil Liberties petitions on hand and gather signatures as people arrive and pass it around the crowd.

Agenda:

• Rich will welcome everyone
• Eric will moderate
• Doug - Effects of USA Patriot Act, as well as related threats to our civil liberties
• Rita - impacts to Arab-Americans
• Lourdes - impacts to immigrants
• Howard will introduce a Freedom Rider, who will speak briefly about the upcoming Freedom Ride
• Eric will make announcements:
• Everyone will get a petition and is challenged to collect signatures
• We will have collection buckets to support the freedom riders and detainees
• Q&A
• Reminder of announcements

We will have two tables, one with fliers, signs, voter registration forms, and detainee support collection bucket. The other table will have freedom ride fliers and the freedom rider support collection bucket.

Oppose USA PATRIOT Act T-Shirts:

Final decision on the design of the T-Shirts: Dark blue on white (unless white on black is affordable). Slogan will be "You Have the Right NOT to Remain Silent. Oppose the USA PATRIOT Act. www.snowcoalition.org"

Judy and Janet will replace Tom & Charles as the contact e-mails on the SNOW Neighborhoods page.

Tabling at Fremont Sunday Market tomorrow:

We'll give it a try and see how it goes. It does not look like anyone will be available next weekend. Tom 9-11

Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to meet Tom the Organizer as expected.
