Notes from meeting 1/3/04:
Attendance: Charles, Eric, Abe, Gunnel, Janet
New directions for SNOW
Not enough interest generated for a state-wide resolution for the USA PATRIOT Act
New possible directions discussed:
- Counter-recruitment for schools
- March 20th rally
- Outreach to younger people and people of color
- Outreach to labor groups and Jobs For Justice
- Wallingford Group Friday Night At The Movies needs help, possible avenue for educating people,
old Red Hook building in Fremont a possible new venue
How can we regenerate membership?
Get back in touch with former members Inform neighbors of local caucuses, tailor information to each person's
discussion interests
Observation that many younger people inclined towards higher-risk activities, festivity, instant gratification,
might be more inclined towards information about protest demonstrations, community service projects
Suggestion that we contact activist teachers to see how we might galvanize students to help with community
civic projects and voting
Contact Dean and Kucinich people to obtain info on canvassing
Strategy:
- Obtain map of caucus precincts
- Contact older SNOW membership
- Bring info to neighbors
- Identify caucus precincts
- SNOW flyers
- Voter registration forms (some with stamps for those who want to personally mail them)
- Flyer identifying candidates and website URLs for details on issues
- March 20th rally flyer
- Button or bumper sticker "Regime Change 2004"
- Janet to research candidate websites for flyers
- Eric to obtain more voter registration forms, revise SNOW flyer with new URL and header,
obtain buttons for "Regime Change 2004"
- Charles to research caucus precinct locations
- Gunnel to obtain "Regime Change" bumperstickers, contact previously active NSNPJ members.
