Everyone is welcome to attend the showing on Sunday at the church. There will be a rally and march for workers' rights on May Day (May 1). The march will start at Seattle Central Community College at 10 am and march to Westlake Park. There will be a showing of "Haiti, Harvest of Hope" on May 13 at 6pm, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 116 21st St. SNOW has made the U.S.-sponsored coup in Haiti one of its focuses. Eric will add a page of information about Haiti to the Web site (it would help if someone could do the research and send him the content). Depleted Uranium issue is heating up - soldiers returning to New York have tested positive for DU poisoning. An article is posted on the Web site - also check out the Depleted Uranium 101 page if you haven't already. Emergency Bannering and visit to Senators: OCCUPATION IS NOT LIBERATIONAn urgent response is needed to the increased U.S. aggression and bloodshed in Iraq. SNOW will be bannering in prominent locations to reach people while their attention is focused on the horrors occuring in Falluja and elsewhere. North Seattle Neighbors for Peace & Justice will be helping with the banner at the N 130th overpass on I-5 on Monday, 4/12. Delegates from SNOW and other peace and justice coalition groups will be visiting our Senators to demand an end to U.S. violence in Iraq. For information, contact Tom at organizer@snowcoalition.org New meeting schedule of North Seattle Neighbors for Peace and JusticeIn order to better maintain our energy and membership over the long run, our group will be changing to a once-monthly meeting and potluck rather than weekly meetings. We will have Peace Potlucks the first weekend of each month, in rotating locations around our neigborhoods. We will start with a potluck from 4-5, followed by a meeting from 5-7. In order to make it more fun, we will try to have music for the potluck portion of the event. The potluck/meetings will be advertised by a small free-standing sign which can be left in front of the meeting location for the week prior to the meeting. Gunnel will create the sign and Brent will paint "Peace Potluck" and our group name on it in large letters. Eric will create an insert each month with the specific date, time, and location. Fremont Sunday MarketThe Fremont group is looking into starting up at the Suday Market again. If so, we will be taking one day a month like before. We will plan on doing Fremont the third weekend of each month (so it alternates with our potluck/meetings). We hope to start on May 16. We will focus on registering voters as well as getting donations for merchandise. Here is a tentative schedule for May 16:
MoveOn bake saleThe MoveOn PAC group is holding a nation-wide bake sale next Saturday, 4/18 to raise money for progressive political campaigns and contrast with the fat cats giving $2000 checks to the Bush campaign. They are looking for volunteers to host bake sales. Eric is interested in hosting one, if others will bake cookies or cakes and help out. We also need a good location where there's lots of foot traffic. One possibility is Green Lake (although one group is already signed up for a bake sale at Greenlake). Voter RegistrationEric suggested doing voter registration on days when Mariners home games coincide with the Art Walk. This would allow us to get the Mariners fans as well as the art crowd. The action would be in Pioneer Square downtown. If there is interest in this, Eric will organize the events. The two dates are: Independent and Progressive media:Janet has been impressed with the new progressive talk radio station (it's being broadcast in Portland, and you can get it on the Internet). Some folks are going to call radio stations here to ask them to pick up the shows. Eric will add a list of times/locations where people can tune into indy media to the Web site. | |||
