Home - Events - Signs - Links - About - Contact Notes from meeting6/6/04:Attending: Eric, Gunnel, Stephanie, Catherine, Gorm, Charles, Abe, Tom, George, Debbie, Nicole, Bruce, Jane, Janet Announcements:Seattle Thunder is coming on July 31. Next Peace Potluck and meeting: Saturday, July 3, 4-7, location TBA. Fremont Sunday MarketJune 20 (during the Fremont Street Fair): We will be selling and getting petition signatures during the Fremont Fair on Sunday the 20th. (Another SNOW group will staff the booth on Saturday.)
We will not be able to do the Fremont booth in the future since the Fremont group is pretty much defunct and so we will not have the booth space reserved. We will be looking into other possibilities: Lake City (Thursdays), Ballard Market (Sunday), U District Market (Saturdays). Another possibility is tabling outside PCC or another location like that. Petition on IraqSNOW has gathered about 2,000 signatures so far. We each took a couple of petitions to fill and return. BanneringBannering went very well Sunday before the potluck - good turnout, great response from motorists. Gunnel went to MVP and made a large "SNOWCOALITION.ORG" sign to hang below the "END THE OCCUPATION" sign. We will be making a "BRING OUR TROOPS HOME" sign and more opaque backing so we can hang the signs on the southbound lanes (they need better visibility with light shining through them). NW Social ForumThere will be a NW Social Forum in October, like the World Social Forum held in Brazil. It will have workshops and other events focused on sustainability. There will be a mardi-gras style parade as part of the Forum. SNOW may be participating, with each neighborhood creating a float and/or costumes depicting what's wrong with the world and/or our vision for fixing it. For instance, we could dress up as windmills and cornstalks (biodiesel) to show support for renewable energy. The group agreed that we should declare our interest and commit to participating in some manner. At the worst, we could march with our blue banner. HalloweenThere's an idea afoot to create a SNOW haunted house - "the horrors of four more years of bush" - as a fundraiser and attention-getter. We were concerned that this might be too much work for SNOW to take on successfully right now. At least the parade is organized by someone else - we just have to jump on board. We probably can't do both. Also, some people felt they would want to concentrate on more overtly political get-out-the-vote activities so close to the election (Halloween is just a couple of days before the general election). | |||
