Home - Events - Signs - Links - About - Contact Notes from meeting 7/3/04:Attending: Charles, Tom S-H, Judy, Eric, Bruce, Jane, Alice, George, Janie,
Rachel, Tom R, Eileen, and Victor. Announcements:Seattle Thunder is coming on July 31. Next Peace Potluck and meeting: Saturday, August 7, at George and Janie's, 11532 1st Ave NW. BanneringThe group decided there was enough interest to get out and banner on the Aurora overpass on the 4th. We ended up with about 13 people bannering, with flags (U.S, U.N, and the Earth flag) and signs. Lots of new folks came to help with the bannering too. If you haven't been out bannering, you really should join us - it's very encouraging to see how many people honk and wave. We're not alone. We are there every Sunday from noon - 1:30 (at the pedestrian overpass on Aurora near Oak Tree, at about 102nd). TablingWe discussed what our next project should be - there is still interest in tabling/registering voters/selling shirts, etc. We need to research new venues since we cannot do Fremont anymore. The following folks volunteered to follow up on potential venues (we need to find out how to reserve a space, how much it costs, are there any restrictions...)
Voter registrationMost people in our neighborhoods are registered, and there are lots of folks out registering... no need to make a special effort of this, just bring it along for our other projects like tabling. New Forum/ Discussion/ Movie Showing? We discussed planning a new educational event since it has been a while. One possibility would be to host the "Eyewitness Report: The Real Face of War in Iraq" talk which is being offered on July 14 in Burien. Hopefully someone can go see it in Burien so we can get a report. Another option would be showing a movie followed by a discussion (e.g. "Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land" on media and the Israel-Palestine conflict). There was not a lot of interest in organizing an event, although we agreed it would be good to get another event going. September would be the earliest we could plan one anyway (since August is a terrible month for an event). Contacting our mailing listWe have a lot of "silent" members who have been on our e-mail list for a while, but who we haven't really seen at our events. Many people are beginning to feel like they need to get active again, so we should try and contact our list and get them going. We decided the first step would be to send each list member an e-mail addressed individually asking them if they still want to be on the list and encouraging them to get more involved. We can follow up with more detailed questions after that if it seems warranted. Eric will handle the e-mailing since he can set up the individual e-mails more easily. NW Social ForumThere is definitely interest in marching in the NW Social Forum parade. This will be a Mardi-Gras style parade with floats and costumes in conjunction with the NW Social Forum. The Forum is October 15 - 17, so we guess the parade will probably be Sat. the 16? One idea suggested for our "theme" would be to wear different national costumes, carry U.N. flags and peace flags, and banners with messages like "One world - one peace." This would be much easier to manage than trying to put together a float or even large art costumes.
