Announcements:Special Greenlake vigil today, 9/12, 2pm to commemorate the over 1,000 US soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqis who have died in the war. Abe will give a short speech and Veterans for Peace has created a field of crosses to commemorate the soldiers who have died. SNOW Fundraiser: Presidential Election 2004 and Beyond: What's at Stake? Oct. 1 Next Peace Potluck and meeting: Saturday, October 9, 4-7 at Eric's, 122 N 105 St. BanneringThere is still a lot of interest in bannering. We have been trading off bannering and joining the Greenlake vigil (we'll be at the special Greenlake vigil today), but will for the most part be bannering at our usual time & place: Sunday, 12:30 - 2, Aurora overpass at 102nd (near Larry's). Check your e-mail before bannering to see if there are any changes on a given weekend. TablingWe will continue tabling at PCC for the next month, if we can get enough volunteers. There seems to be more traffic after 5, so shifts should be 5-7 or 5:30 - 7:30. We will need to quit once it gets too dark and/or wet, unless we can find a covered or indoor site for tabling. If you know of a good place we can staff a table during fall and winter, let us know! Tabling schedule for the next month:
Movie night: OutFoxedOur movie night with OutFoxed went well - over 40 people showed up to watch, and Bert Sacks led an interesting discussion of media accountability after the film. Bert has started a new group Citizens Committee for Responsible Journalism to use grassroots action to keep media accountable here in Washington State. You can sign up with the group by going to their Web site at http://www.ccrj-wa.org/ and they will send occasional actions to join - praising good journalism or objecting to bad journalism or lapses in important coverage. SNOW ReorganizationSNOW is reorganizing - the paid organizer has left, and the Coordinating Committee is expanding to include one representative from each neighborhood. Before, there were members representing "clusters" of neighborhoods. We need a volunteer to be our representative to the CC. Judy tentatively volunteered for this, provided it did not entail more than one meeting a month. Gunnel may share the duty with Judy, so it's not too much for either of them. They will both go to the next meeting and report back. NW Social ForumWe have agreed on a plan for the NW Social Forum march on October 16! We will carry hanging paper candle lanterns. This should have an excellent visual impact. The lanterns will have paper covers we can paint with peace signs, symbols, and words from different languages. Eric and Gunnel will design and build the lantern structures, and then we will have a work party so everyone can decorate their own lantern. The work party is planned for Saturday, Oct. 2 - then there will probably be another work party one evening the next week. Stay tuned for more details via e-mail.
